AS A RESULT OF SHIFTING PRIORITIES AND BUDGET CUTS, OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN HIGH QUALITY ARTS INSTRUCTION AND ACTIVITIES ARE DIMINISHING IN SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OPPORTUNITIES THE FINE ARTS PROVIDE RANGE FROM DEVELOPING READING SKILLS AND KEY LEARNING STRATEGIES, TO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, MOTIVATION AND A SENSE OF COMMUNITY. TEL WITTMER, A SENIOR AT HOLTON HIGH SCHOOL ASKS US TO REMEMBER THAT ALL ACTIVITIES ARE IMPORTANT TO THE GROWTH OF AN INDIVIDUAL.

TAYLOR WILLIAMS, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM PAOLA HIGH SCHOOL IN WANTS LEADERS OUT THERE TO REMEMBER THAT IT IS IMPORTANT TO SET A POSITIVE TONE, PRAISE PROGRESS AND NEVER WASTE YOUR EFFORTS ASSIGNING BLAME WHEN YOU CAN BE ASSIGNING SOLUTIONS. TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND START TAKING ACTION. MAKE IT A DAILY CHORE TO APPRECIATE OTHERS AND CONTINUE TO CHEER YOUR TEAM ON EVERY STEP OF THE WAY TO SUCCESS. DON’T WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT, STEP UP AND BE THE ONE TO DO IT. LEADERS KNOW THE WAY, GO THE WAY AND SHOW THE WAY. PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS WATCHING YOU. ARE YOU SHOWING THEM THE RIGHT WAY?

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

CALEB FRYE, A SENIOR AT MOUNDRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL THINKS THAT LEADERSHIP IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF BEING A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT AND ATHLETE. BEING AN EFFECTIVE LEADER MEANS MANY THINGS. IF YOU INSPIRE OTHERS TO DO MORE, BE MORE AND STRIVE FOR MORE, YOU ARE A LEADER. LEADERSHIP IS PRACTICED IN ATTITUDE AND ACTIONS. HAVING THE MOTIVATION AND PASSION TO PUSH YOURSELF TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES IN EDUCATION AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES CAN BE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON OTHERS.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

WHAT’S A TEAM OR SPORT WITHOUT ANY LEADERSHIP, ASKS WALTER GOUDEAU, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM WICHITA SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL? THE NUMBER ONE KEY TO A TEAM’S SUCCESS IS THE LEADERSHIP. COACHES CAN CONCENTRATE MORE ON FUNDAMENTALS INSTEAD OF DISCIPLINE WHEN THERE ARE GOOD TEAM LEADERS. HAVING GOOD LEADERSHIP REFLECTS ON YOUR TEAMMATES BECAUSE YOU’RE LEADING BY EXAMPLE AND THE TEAM FOLLOWS WHAT YOU DO.

“GAMES GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO EXCEL, AND IF YOU ARE PLAYING IN GOOD COMPANY, YOU DON’T MIND IF YOU LOSE BECAUSE YOU HAD THE ENJOYMENT OF THE COMPANY DURING THE COURSE OF THE GAME.” EMILY SCHWANT, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM MISSION VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN ESKRIDGE, KS THINKS THIS IS A GREAT QUOTE THAT ALL COMPETITIORS SHOULD LIVE BY. COMPETITORS BEING POLITE AND SHOWING, NOT ONLY OPPONENTS, BUT EVERYONE, RESPECT MAKES THE GAME A LOT MORE EMJOYABLE TO PLAY AND WATCH. SPORTSMANSHIP MAKES THE GAME FUN, EVEN IF YOU ARE LOSING.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

ZACH SHIMA, A SENIOR AT TOPEKA WEST HIGH SCHOOL SAYS THAT AS FUNDING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION IS BEING DRASTICALLY REDUCED, THE FIRST CUTS ALWAYS SEEM TO BE IN THE ARTS. YET, THE ARTS PROVIDE A CREATIVE OUTLET FOR MANY STUDENTS WHO SOMETIMES STRUGGLE IN THEIR CORE CLASSES. THE ARTS CAN IMPROVE A STUDENT’S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE BY IMPROVING MOTOR SKILLS AND MAYBE EVEN DEVELOPING NEW LEARNING PATTERNS. A STUDENT CAN EXPLORE DIFFERENT INTERESTS AND POSSIBLY FIND A CAREER WHILE WORKING IN ART PROGRAMS. WHEN STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED, THEY NORMALLY MAKE BETTER DECISIONS AND HAVE PASSION TO SUCCEED. THIS HELPS WITH DECISION MAKING AND INVENTIVENESS USED OUT IN THE REAL WORLD.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

For Use Through May 27, 2017
