STUDENT MESSAGES

ENGAGING IN SPORTS AND EXTACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IS ONE WAY TO EXPLORE YOUR INTERESTS. IT’S HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO IF YOU NEVER TRY ANYTHING DIFFERENT. THE MORE THINGS YOU’RE INTERESTED IN, THE MORE OPTIONS YOU’LL HAVE FOR CHOOSING A CAREER THAT EXCITES YOU. TANNA CUNNINGHAM, A SENIOR AT LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL IN DOWNS, KS, ASKS YOU TO STEP OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO TRY SOMETHING NEW.

KYRA BLOSSER, A SENIOR AT COUNCIL GROVE HIGH SCHOOL SAYS THAT NO MATTER THE SPORT, EVERY PLAYER IS A PART OF A TEAM. BECAUSE OF THIS, TEAMWORK IS A CRUCIAL SKILL NEEDED TO HAVE A SUCCESSFULLY SEASON. WHEN PLAYERS STRIVE FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL GOALS RATHER THAN WORKING TOGETHER, THINGS OFTEN GO AWRY. THE LEVEL OF TEAMWORK AND CONNECTION BETWEEN PLAYERS CAN BECOME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINNING AND LOSING. MAKE SURE TO WORK AS A TEAM, RATHER THAN INDIVIDUALLY IN ORDER TO HAVE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON POSSIBLE.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

CALVIN HEIT, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM TOPEKA HIGH SCHOOL, APPRECIATES ALL THE SUPPORT FROM EACH SCHOOL FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS, AND THANKS EVERYONE FOR CREATING A SUPPORTIVE AND ENCOURAGING ENVIRNONMENT FOR ALL COACHES AND PLAYERS. REMEMBER THAT HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ARE COMPETITIVE, BUT ALSO PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO LEARN AND GROW.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT’S LIFE, SAYS SAMANATHA MOBURG, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM LANSING HIGH SCHOOL. STUDENTS NEED TO PUT THEIR ACADEMICS BEFORE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES BECAUSE THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS WILL BENEFIT THEM IN THE FUTURE. BY TAKING ALL ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE GIVEN, STUDENTS ARE SETTING THEMSELVES UP FOR FUTURE SUCCESS. SUCCESS BEGINS WHEN STUDENTS START WORKING HARD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS. THEREFORE, FOCUSING ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVMENTS, STUDENTS ARE PROVIDING THEMSELVES WITH A FUTURE OF ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

LEADERSHIP IS A MASSIVE PART OF ANY SPORT. WHETHER THE TEAM IS PERFORMING WELL OR NOT, A LEADER IS ABLE TO STAY POSITIVE AND GET THE BEST OUT OF HIS OR HER TEAMMATES. A COACH ONCE TOLD HOUSTON FRIEND, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM SATANTA HIGH SCHOOL, THAT TRUE LEADERSHIP IS SHOWN WHEN ADVERSITY IS AT ITS HIGHEST. LEADERS HAVE THE ULTIMATE COMMITMENT AND WILL GO ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR THE TEAM. PROVE YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A LEADER BY MAINTAINING YOUR CHARACTER DURING TIMES OF ADVERSITY.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

LEADERSHIP IS A TRAIT THAT CAN BE LEARNED FROM SPORTS AND CARRIED ON THROUGHOUT THE REST OF OUR LIVES. JOEY LANGSTRAAT, A SENIOR AT BASEHOR-LINWOOD HIGH SCHOOL IN BASEHOR, KS, SAYS THAT EVERYONE HAS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A LEADER IN THEIR LIVES. WHETHER IT BE A PARENT, RELATIVE, COACH OR MENTOR, WE ALL HAVE SOMEONE SETTING AN EXAMPLE AND LEADING US THROUGH HARD TIMES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO LISTEN TO THESE AUTHORITIES AND THEY WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY AND EXAMPLE TO LIVE BY AND BE A LEADER IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

A MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS STATE HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION AND THE STUDENT ADVISORY TEAM.

WHEN IT COMES TO TODAY’S WORLD, IT SEEMS LIKE AT TIMES SPORTSMANSHIP IS A LOST IDEA SAYS MALLORY KUESER, A RECENT GRADUATE FROM OLPE HIGH SCHOOL. NEGATIVITY CAN BE SPREAD FASTER THAN POSITIVITY, WHICH IS WHY WE NEED TO BE COURTEOUS OF OTHERS WHEN AT A SPORTING EVENT. LET OUR OFFICIALS OFFICIATE, LET OUR PLAYERS PLAY AND LET US AS FANS BE APPROPRIATE AND ENCOURAGING WITH OUR CHEERS. WHAT SPORTSMANSHIP ALL COMES DOWN TO IS SUPPORTING AND MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM AND NOT PUTTING OTHERS DOWN. WE CAN MAKE EXPERIENCES MORE ENOYABLE BY SPREADING THE WORD AND MODELING GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP.
